Support our Dogsled Team on its way to the Iditarod!
Montgomery Adventures by Mountain Haven Sled Dogs is proud to announce that we are on our way to our first qualifying race for the Iditarod - The Can-Am Crown Race in Fort Kent Maine.
It is a long process to get to the Iditarod - first we must enter the 60 mile Can-Am race and place in the top 75% of our class. Then, next year, we must run the wilderness 100 mile race in Maine, and then the Can-Am Crown 250 mile race. This procedure must be done for two concecutive years until we total 750 miles of distance racing, all of which we must finish in the top 75%. Then, and only then, can we consider putting our name in as a Rookie runner for the Iditarod.
Team Mountain Haven includes our female, Natasha, and 7 of her offspring, all raised and trained here at Mountain Haven in the Deep Gibou of Montgomery, VT. The love of dog sledding and knowing what our "kids" (dogs) can do makes Keith want to try and give them the recognition they deserve. His love for the outdoors, solitude, and his dogs, all being joined as one as he runs them through the snow covered woods, makes it worth all the efforts to achieve this goal. If Keith makes it to the Iditarod, his race will be dedicated to his nephew, Russell Sampeitro, who lived and died in Manley Hot Springs, Alaska, and was friends with Joey and Pam Redington. Our father dog, Naugh-Tue, we are told came from the Redington's litter, so our dogs come from Iditarod stock, as our Mother dog, Natasha, came from Bruce Linton, Iditarod runner, and former Montgomery resident.
UPDATE 3/16/11 - Great News! Keith has qualified for the next race. Thank you for your continued support as we move along in the qualifying process.
